 Douglas County Sheriff's Mounted Posse

Parades

The Posse Parade Unit is comprised of riders and ground crew with an interest in providing positive public relations for the Sheriff's Department.

We are proud to incorporate an honor guard which has been requested for other community events besides parades. Our parade entry also includes our beloved "Banner Babes," a decorated truck and trailer, and of course our drill formation riders.

The entire unit trains specifically for parades with dynamic desensitization exercises and formation riding. This valuable training is open for any member of the posse, and required for the parade unit riders. As beneficial as this training is for the horses and riders, it is also a creative challenge for the organizers, as new obstacles are constantly introduced.

The Posse represents the Sheriff's Office in the Carson Valley Days Parade in June, the Fourth of July Parade in Bridgeport, California, the Johnson Lane Independence Day Parade in Minden, and the Nevada Day Parade in Carson City.

The Posse has acquired many awards as a result of its parade participation. Each award represents many hours of preparation, dedicated effort to represent our Sheriff well, and camaraderie and fun to boot. Some of our awards are available for viewing in the Sheriff's Office in Minden.
