Join UsBecome A Member Even if you do not own a horse, you are encouraged to become a member of the Douglas County Sheriff’s Mounted Posse. The ground crew is an integral part of the DCSMP, many Posse duties and activities do not require riders. Interested applicants are required to complete an application form and submit a one-time fee of $35. An oral interview will then be conducted with two members of the Membership Committee. New applicants must voluntarily submit to and pass a background check required by the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office. Any member wishing to become a qualified Posse rider must own or have access to a horse, suitable tack and a horse trailer. A Qualified Rider Test (QRT) will be administered in order to assess the abilities and safety of both horse and rider. The horse and rider team will need to pass this test in order to participate in mounted Posse events. Please refer to our Bylaws and Manuals page to learn more about the Posse and to download an application. You can also contact one of the Douglas County Sheriff‘s Mounted Posse Board Members for more information about Posse membership.
